German boutique taps PE risk premia from leveraged buyouts with mutual fund

Munich based neXDos GmbH announced the launch of the neXDos US Buyout Style mutual fund. neXDos was founded in 2021 with the mission to transfer scientific findings on the systematic value drivers of closed-end private equity funds to the management of liquid equities. The founders are experienced entrepreneurs in the German asset management industry.

"This fund is an opportunity-oriented and diversifying US equity fund," says Matthias van Randenborgh, who took the founding initiative for neXDos together with Christian Mardeck and Dr. Steffen Mollenhoff.

"We have launched what is probably the world's first mutual fund that gives investors access to the most important performance drivers of LBOs in liquid equity portfolios by mapping the financial engineering of the leveraged buyout (LBO) industry," explains Dr. Steffen Mollenhoff, who is responsible for the neXDos investment office.

Outperforming the S&P 500

neXDos says that the investment process of private equity is systematically superior to that of traditional equity funds and ETFs. Over the last 40 years, LBOs have generated returns of almost 20% p.a. - before fund costs and carry. After costs, it was still around 12%, while the S&P 500 generated 10% p.a. over the same period.
