Cleary Gottlieb adds to PE practice

Opalesque Industry Update - Wei Fang has joined Cleary Gottlieb as counsel in the Beijing office.

Wei's return will further strengthen the firm's M&A and private equity practices and expand the breadth and depth of services we provide to our clients.

Wei's practice focuses on corporate M&A and private equity transactions. He has extensive experience representing Chinese companies and private equity firms in outbound investments on a global basis, as well as representing private equity investors, hedge funds, and large multinational corporations, among others, in investment, financing, and joint venture transactions and pre-IPO investments in China. Over the past 10 years, he has provided professional legal services to many well-known private equity funds, sovereign funds, financial institutions, and multinational corporations in M&A, minority investments, corporate joint ventures, and securities offerings in various industries.

Prior to returning to Cleary, Wei was a partner at Fangda Law Firm, where he was responsible for corporate M&A and private equity investments. Previously, Wei worked in Cleary's Beijing office from 2015 to 2021 and was promoted to senior associate in 2019. Wei has also worked at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP and Shearman & Sterling LLP.

Wei has served major clients including private equity funds such as TPG, Temasek, Bain, CITIC Industrial Fund, Azure Capital, Sequoia China, Chunghua, and Hony; investment banks such as Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, Citi, UBS, Deutsche Bank, and CICC; and corporate clients such as Alibaba, Ant Group, Byte Jump, Jiangsu Hengrui, PetroChina, Where to Go, COFCO Meat, and Bona Film.
